3 new musicals and "Artist in Residence"
programs that last from one day to one week.
We spend time working with kids (and adults who think they are kids)
around the world.
Choose from a variety of programs designed for the classroom
or for your staff, parents and community, too.
Here is what they are saying:
After
Larry's school program at Rose Hill
Elementary School, Alexandria, Virginia:
"Congratulations! I send admiration to the entire community
of Rose Hill Elementary School students, faculty, families,
staff, volunteers and supporters-for the great celebration
of your wonderful cultural diversity .... Rose Hill represents
the best of what can happen when schools, neighborhoods, and
communities embrace the realities and gifts of cultural diversity
and celebrate them as what they are the unique strength and
beauty of the United States of America." -First Lady Laura Bush Sept. 23, 2002
The
one week experience presented by Larry at our school was exactly
what the students and staff needed. The fun filled activities
pulled even the heaviest skeptics into participation. We had
our veteran phy ed staff role modeling the songs and actions
with their grins and laughter permiating throughout the classrooms.
One of the aspects I enjoyed observing was the celebration
of the cultures. Larry put all of the students, no matter
which culture the called there, on an even footing. His direct
instructional style taught the students, his participatory
presentations encouraged everyone and his charisma pulled
it all together into a perfect package. Thanks for infusing
our school with your cultural bag of goodies. Tim
Johnson, Dean of Students
Kennedy Elementary School, Willmar, Minnesota
“Take
23 fifth graders, a Venezuelan mouse trap, a lungi from Bangladesh
and a rambunctious Larry Swenson. Mix in multicultural songs
and stories and hilarious high jinks and what do you have?
You have a musical presentation for kids of all ages."
-Cassie Braun 5th grade teacher,
North Bend, Washington
"By
exposing and engaging young children in multilingual and multiethnic
cultural pursuits through the universal language of music,
Mr. Swenson was setting the students on a `Peace Road' that
has as its foundation, understanding and acceptance of people
different than ourselves. In my opinion, this was a great
way to promote multicultural awareness and peaceful cooperation." -Stephen K Badzik ESL Instructor,
Alexandria, Virginia
"Thanks
so much for the visit to Shearman. We really enjoyed
your program! Susan, our principal, is thinking of working
you
into our teacher inservice on diversity, too!"
-Diane Fogel 3rd grade instructor, Marshall, Michigan
"Larry
is a natural with children. They immediately listen
and respond to him and his music." -Judy Luhman 1st grade teacher, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota
Your
Hometown in the World!
Music, high energy, culture
and movement! This combines lively
international children's songs with cultural information, and a
message of respect, tolerance and understanding of people who might
look, dress or think differently.
Creative Cultures
Actively
participate in songs and dances from
the U.S. and other countries. See the interrelationship of people
and their music. Students innovate and apply movements to create
their own versions of the dances such as "Pizza Hut,"
"Ram Sam Sam," "The Butterfly," "Chicken
Dance," "Laapatud," "Cuando Un Amigo Baila,"
"Hand Jive," and "Asereje."
Cultural
Diversity
Since teachers work with such a variety of children from
so many different cultures, try our programs based around two hands-on
intercultural activities, "Barnga" and "The Meeting
of the Yahoos and Zezoos." Learn why people think, believe
and behave
differently.
